Do you have a newer mobile phone, you are actually close to having a GPS navigator (like the ones you already know: TomTom, Garmin Nuvi, etc). Many new mobile phones have built-in GPS, and some also have navigation software installed. Do you have a cell phone with Bluetooth without integrated GPS, you can still use your phone for GPS navigation. All you then need is a GPS antenna and a program for your mobile phone. You need to spend some money on a GPS antenna, unless your mobile phone already has built-in GPS.
The software will then comunicate with the GPS antenna and tell the software where your location is.
You can then search for addresses on the phone and let it guide you on your way.
With this solution you don't need to have both cell phone and a GPS navigator sitting in the car - all is done with your cell phone.
Another advantage is that maps are always current - if you buy a traditional GPS Navigator, maps are already installed - typically on a memory card - and they are not updated automatically. When you use your mobile phone and these commercial programs they download the map each time and it is always the latest.
